In coordination with the city’s Department of Transportation’s Weekend Walks program, on May 17 the Long Island City community celebrated a free block festival down Vernon Boulevard. The corridor was closed to vehicles between 50th and 46th Avenues for a day filled with activities including exercise and dance classes, musical performances, sculpture making, Lego building and more. Visitors were also encouraged to go out and explore other nearby events such as the LIC Arts Open and the LIC Flea & Food. Businesses along the boulevard also provided food, drinks and other retail items. LIC BID ANNUAL MEETING The Long Island City Business Improvement District held it’s annual meeting on May 21, where property and business owners, residents and other community members celebrated the successes in LIC over the past year and discussed new initiatives.
