A church in Long Island City is seek-ing
to build a seven-story, mixed-use
building adjacent to its site.
The Church of the Redeemer at 30-
14 Crescent St. filed plans with the
Department of Buildings to construct
a structure with 84,400 square feet
of community facility space mostly for
a health care facility and some church
office space on the first floor.
The Protestant Episcopal church
was founded in 1866 as part of the
Episcopal Diocese of Long Island. It is
located across the street from Mount
Sinai Queens Hospital.
According to renderings released by
architecture firm JWC Architect engi-neer,
the current structure will not be
demolished. The building will also include
several outdoor terraces. A receptionist at
the church said “no comment” when QNS
asked questions about the church’s plans.
James Wu Chen, the owner of the
architecture firm, was not available for
comment as of press time.
YIMBY first reported on the plans.
