BY JILL DAVIS Father’s Day is on Sunday, June 16, this year. According to entrepreneur.com, Dads
get the short end of the stick compared to Moms. Average consumers spend almost
30% less on Dad on Father’s Day ($116) than they do on Mom on Mother’s Day ($163).
Children are also 14% more likely to buy a present for Mom than for Dad on their respective
 days of recognition.
Come on kids, step up! In case you’re wondering what you should plunk your hardearned
cash on for Dad, fathers report that they like to receive gift cards and electronic
gadgets, but save your money on a gym membership (at least they’re honest).
Here are some quotable quotes from some famous Dads:
“Having children is like living in a frat house. Nobody sleeps, everything’s broken and
there’s a lot of throwing up.” – Ray Romano
“There should be a children’s song: ‘If you’re happy and you know it, keep it to yourself
and let your dad sleep.’” – Jim Gaffigan
“Buying your kid a goldfish is a great way to teach them about responsibility for
 24—36 hours.” – Conan O’Brien
“You can tell what was the best year of your father’s life because they seem to freeze
that clothing style and ride it out.” – Jerry Seinfeld
“Fatherhood is great because you can ruin someone from scratch.” – Jon Stewart
“Whenever one of my children says, ‘Goodnight, Daddy,’ I always think to myself, ‘You
don’t mean that.’” – Jim Gaffigan
Have fun at these coming up over the next several weeks:

Okay, so there won’t be a Triple Crown this
year. But maybe that’s just as well…between the
craziness of a first-in-history disqualified winner
of the Kentucky Derby and the scariness
of a top jockey being tossed off his horse at the
starting gate of the Preakness, I don’t think my
nerves could take it anyway. Happily, tickets to
the Belmont should be fairly easy to come by.
 Prices start at $25.

This could be a dinner out that dad would actually
like! Hey, there’ll be beer, bratwurst, beer, sauerbraten,
beer…sure, you can get that any time at Plattdeutsche,
but for Father’s Day, the tribute Billy Joel band “Cold
Spring Harbor” will be playing live in the Biergarten. So,
Happy Father’s Day or, as they say in German, Alles Gute

But if you want to experience the
whole thing up close, go to the
venue early when there’ll be live
music by the School of Rock Band
starting at 6pm (admittance as of 5pm). Oh yeah, and it’s all free!
