NICE & NEUTRAL

STREET STYLE
BY MARIE TORIO
A @PHOTOSBYMARIETORIO s I walked around the streets of Astoria on a chilly
day off looking for western Queens’ most fashionable
residents, I noticed a common thread with locals’
looks: everyone seemed to be rocking neutral
tones. One fashionista sported an all-black outfit
with a fun pop of yellow, while one man let his patterned scarf
and mint green glasses shine by choosing understated pieces.
People wore relaxed looks as they ran errands or took a break,
including peacoats, fashionable scarves, leather jackets, vests,
hoodies and boots. Take a look at some of our favorite ensembles.
Grigoris (@grigoris_hanelis) was visiting Astoria from
Greece when I spotted him. Even though he had his
hands full with Starbucks, he was still nice enough to stop
and chat for a bit. He said his style was “very street.” The
tapered ankle pants and leather jacket over a black shirt
and zip-up sweatshirt gave his look some street edge.
Steve (@old_pancake), who works for the VA, was
walking down Broadway when I ran into him.
He said that his style is “presentable,” with “lots
of flannel but hip." His look gave me all the fall
feels with his lace-up boots, sweater, quilted vest
and scarf — definitely hip in my book.
