“I hope it doesn’t scare people when they
come in!” Almazan joked. “This was also
made for one of my plays. I didn’t want to
put a gun onstage; I feel like that’s contributing

to violence.” Instead of a real one,
they created this wooden one.
The kitchen isn’t as chock-full of decorations
as the living room, but it still has
character. Most of the items in the kitchen
hark back to her childhood and Spanish
heritage. Plates from Spain decorate
the walls, and she has a small collection
of pottery from her father’s tiny Spanish
hometown.
“I’m the only one in my family that puts
these plates up from Spain,” Almazan said.
“That’s gold to me. That’s where I come
from.”
Family is very important to her. She
has gifts from her sister on display, and a
