Locally made holiday gifts are now for sale
at AlterWork Studios, an open access art
and community center in Long Island City.
The Holiday Market officially
opened the day after Thanksgiving
on Nov. 23 and will
stay open until Christmas
Eve. Some of the gifts that art
lovers can give to family and
friends include pottery, leather
apparel, printed T-shirts, prints,
cards, buttons and paintings.
Most of the 14 artists selling their
handmade pieces are Queens residents.
“We are working in our shops ourselves
so people can come by and talk
to the artists,” said AlterWork Studios
founder Tina Stipanovic, who said that
nobody is obligated to buy anything if
they wish to visit the studio. “They can
come by and just show their support.”
AlterWork Studios opened in 2017
and hopes to help both veteran and
up-and-coming artists advance their
careers by offering affordable workspace,
tools, classes, workshops and
public exposure.
The Holiday Market is open from 11 a.m.
to 8 p.m. For more examples of items for
sale and studio offerings check out their
