The property was landmarked in 1961, and features a stone manor house, a working water-powered grist mill and millpond, an 18th century barn, a slave garden, and a reconstructed tenant farm house. For a nosh, stop by The Bridge View Tavern (225 Beekman Ave)—a family owned and run establishment. Beautiful views of the majestic Hudson River, Tappan Zee Bridge, and Palisade Mountain Range make this blue collar bar worth the trip. That, and of course the crack pie, served with a dollop of vanilla ice cream—holding a close second to the Momofuku recipe. The menu is varied, with items that include boar, naan pizza, and disco fries with chorizo. The staff is warm and friendly, which plays a big part of the high reviews online. Sleepy Hollow is the place that a friend took me to photograph years ago, when I bought my first SLR. Any person with an interest in history, epic scenery, and a quick day trip outside the city would enjoy a trip to this small town that is anything but sleepy.
