NOVEMBER 2014 | BOROMAG.COM | 23 styles in the store in a wide array of colors. 3) Fashion scarves.  There is a whimsical feel to each print, and it appeals to a woman›s individuality.   4) I›m adding a fourth because overall, I'm really digging burgundy and reds this season.  You'll find this color throughout the store in shoes, jewelry, and scarves. BORO: How often do you host your happy hour? NP: Happy Hour is every Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.  It’s complimentary wine while you shop, no purchase necessary.  I like to keep it fun and welcoming in the store, so it’s just a little something to make my customers feel at home. BORO: What other events do you regularly host? NP: The two consistent events are the Night Owl Workshop and Ladies Night Out Party. The Night Owl Workshop features a guest speaker discussing a topic of their expertise.  The Ladies Night Out Party features a give away each month in which the winner gets a private shopping party for her and up to 10 friends, and all guests receive 10% off for the evening.  Other various events are announced each month—and all of my events involve complimentary wine. BORO: Is there any 1 publication you would recommend for keeping your finger on the pulse of trends? NP: Ooh, that’s tough.  But, I’m a big fan of Lucky.  They keep it simple and relate trends back to everyday use.   BORO: Will you name a style icon you admire, and tell us why? NP: Audrey Hepburn is by far my favorite.  Even fifty years later her style is relevant.  Audrey made simplicity elegant, and she opened the door for women to wear clothes they feel like themselves in.  To quote her, “Why change? Everyone has his own style. When you have found it, you should stick to it.” BORO: What makes The Brass Owl stand out from its competition?  NP: Overall, I offer quality at a good value, prices range from $20 to $260.  There are names you know and trust, and it’s not disposable fashion.  I also offer a lot of handmade jewelry and gifts made in the U.S. and a lot from NYC.  So you will find several unique pieces that are not mass produced.  Also, I have new items delivered every week.  I like to keep it fresh, so there will always be a new find when you come to The Brass Owl. BORO: Is there anything else you’d like us to mention about you or the store? NP: I built The Brass Owl to be an overall experience rather than just a regular retail shop.  I want people to feel welcome and at home.  Customers often come in and hang out and chat, and I love that.  I’ve met so many wonderful people and feel so privileged to be a part of this community.   The Brass Owl Open Tuesday through Sunday 36–19 Ditmars Boulevard www.thebrassowl.com
