FOOD 8 | BOROMAG.COM | NOVEMBER 2013 Okido ki When Okidoki Ramen opened its doors a few months ago, few people found the time to stop by and savor the ramen before the doors quickly shut again on a dark noodle house. Now several month’s later, the doors have reopened to the public, and this time we didn’t miss our chance to slurp up some of the action. And after four months of waiting, we certainly knew what we wanted to try. Okidoki serves several versions of ramen, including the original BBQ tonkotsu pork soup noodles, which arrive with bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, pork chashu, and a salt flavored egg and fish cake. Other popular variations include a similar soup with chicken and citron powder, or the shoyu ramen which employs soy and katsuobushi powder. In fact there are ten varieties of soup to choose from, including tsukemen and hiyashimen, for those who prefer dipping and dining. For diners seeking a really great deal, the addition of just three bucks earns diners a hearty side salad, as well as a choice if rice ball—ranging from kimchi all the way to spicy tuna or pickled plum. For those less concerned with specials, the fourteen small plates nearly double up on the action. Familiar versions of oshinko and fried oysters are simple and clean, but that doesn’t mean you have to play it safe. Branch out and try the shio tamago, a glistening egg sawed in half. Or perhaps the octopus marinated in wasabi. Everything is fresh, and made to order. 34-05 30th Ave | Astoria, NY 11103 718) 806-1677
