Kids and teens looking to pick up a new skill this
summer are just a ferry ride away from doing
just that at the Roosevelt Island Racquet Club,
which hosts the Advantage All-City Junior Tennis
Camp program. The program for children
ages 6 to 17 runs for 12 weeks from June 11
to Aug. 31.
And unlike many camps, the Advantage All-City Junior
Tennis Camp allows kids to sign up by the week or even
just for specific days:
“The thing that makes us most unique is our flexibility,” said
Steve O’Keefe, director of Advantage Day Camp. “Members
can sign up for a weekly package or pick and choose days
throughout the summer, so a lot of people like that.”
At the camp, children can participate in three to four
activities each day. These activities include field and gym
sports, tennis, swimming and arts and crafts. What makes
them different from your average day camp is that they
mix in one enrichment activity every day, including chess,
fencing or theater arts.
Plus, campers have access to the great facilities at the
racquet club, which has 12 air-conditioned HarTru tennis
courts.
“We have great facilities, with lots of outdoor space for
enrichment activities,” O’Keefe said.
The Roosevelt Island Racquet Club is accessible by bus,
subway (F train), tram and car. If you choose to drive, there
is free on-site parking.
