Not only is the space impeccably photogenic,
it is also 100 percent unique, filled
with pieces handcrafted by Mullen, a trait
that runs in the family.
“I come from a very crafty, do-it-yourself
family,” she said. “My dad and my grandpa
had a cabinet-making business and were really
into woodworking. My dad, my grandpa
and I all love old stuff and making stuff. My
mom is crafty in a different way: she’s really
into scrapbooking and she loves to make
decorations for the house.”
In their entryway hangs a wooden sign
with the word “hello” on it lined with small
hooks. It easily looks like something from a
home goods store, but was made by Mullen
and her father.
Same with the large painting of a cartoonish
woman and a cat in their living
nook, made by Mullen. She nabbed the
giant frame for $5 at a Goodwill and
needed something abnormally large to
go in it, so she painted something herself.
Outside of her bedroom is a beautiful
