QUEENS NYC LIT FEST 42 | BOROMAG.COM | JUNE 2015 THE ARTS Below are two selections being featured this month by Queens-based poets Megan DiBello and Daniel Dissinger, the founders of Poetry Teachers NYC. Poetry Teachers NYC prides itself on standing for the employment of poets, while providing an affordable education. They present “Poets,” in the broader sense of the word (art, music and writing), to sustain a model of teaching on-site and online classes. They also curate multidisciplinary events in gallery spaces throughout New York City, along with performing and participating in conferences and festivals such as the Queens Lit Fest. 1st prez here to stay by Megan DiBello i am afraid my dog George is the only male who has seen me naked in days besides he, like other males won’t remember how I have helped undress me at least my dog can look at my body and walk away still needing me even when he is all alone define: counting these feelings By Daniel Dissinger there are these small and smaller spaces where our words create bridges and bridges build portals and portals are where we say we’ll meet and hold hands tonight like promised naps at the shore like constant silence like continual … what does it mean for our bodies’ breath when we drown in this thick subway like pulling small bones from a fresh wound like complete fire like soaked … she holds his wrist together like scaffolds hold up our city and when the subway surrounds our mouths it’s here someone grabs my fingers tightly InspiredWordNYC will be presenting a celebration of grassroots literary arts in Queens with the first annual Queens Lit Fest at LIC Bar on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. both days. If you have a poem, song or spoken word you would like to share, there will be an open mic sign-up starting at 11 a.m. The mission of the event is to bridge the gap and bring together the diverse Queens literary arts community in one wonderfully classic watering hole in the heart of the borough’s booming section of Long Island City and to create a dynamic event that is unpretentious, all-inclusive and filled with heart, soul and love. LIC BAR 45-58 Vernon Blvd., Long Island City, Queens, NY 11101 http://www.licbar.com/ Age limit: 21+ (must bring valid ID) Admission: FREE In the private room beyond the backyard, there will be a continuous open mic of poetry, prose and spoken word, with featured writers such as longtime Queens Poet Laureate Paolo Javier. Queens-based reading series, groups and organizations will be showcased. In the main bar, with its antique wood floors, brick walls and tin ceiling, there will be plenty of choices of draft beer, single-malt scotch and well-mixed drinks, as well as Queens-based musicians providing entertainment during breaks with spirited acoustic sets. And in the charming outdoor backyard garden, under the peacefulness of willow trees, there will be much schmoozing, and people sharing wares at vendor tables. You can support the efforts with any donation of $1 and up, with anything $50 and up considered as a sponsorship. 100 percent of donations/sponsorship dollars will help defray costs and pay for featured artists.  WWW.INSPIREDWORDNYC.COM WWW.POETRYTEACHERSNYC.COM
