JUNE 2014 | BOROMAG.COM | xx THE SPACE Nestled into the 4th floor of 29-20 23rd Avenue just steps from the Ditmars N, Q stop, Sage Studios is a beautiful, soothing studio, awash with greens and browns, lots of natural light and a large outdoor terrace space. A dancer most of my life, floors have always been important to me. If I am jumping around, I want to make sure that my joints aren’t going to be hollering at me the next morning. I was certainly happy to see that the cushy flooring tiles had quite a bit of give. Bordering the space in a sort of circular set-up, are Concept 2 Rowers, Ski Erg machines, TRX stations, and loads of fitness style kettlebells. The center of the room is outfitted with digital screens and a sound system allowing the trainers to list the circuits for the day and change the playlist at will. Having the focus of the room at the center allowed the entire group to easily interact with the trainer. I never felt unable to see or hear the demonstrations. There are cabinets available for storage of personal belongings during class, as well as an accessible restroom and water cooler. THE TRAINER Though I know that there are multiple trainers who work out of this location, my sessions were solely with Danny Suarez. Open, engaging, and full of enthusiasm, Danny is a perfect match for this space, style, and format. He is a thorough teacher, taking time to show and explain each exercise, suggest modifications when applicable, and correct form issues when necessary. You can see that he has a great relationship with his clients, and creates an air of excitement, encouragement, and acceptance within the studio. His passion for health and fitness were quite clear to me in our conversations. He clearly lives for this kind of work. Danny is an ACE certified Personal Trainer, a Level 1 Cross Fit Trainer, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. I had the pleasure of working through an Upper Body and Lower Body class on different mornings (even some Core circuits during the photo shoot) and all were blood-pumping, heart thumping workouts that utilized all of the studio equipment, kick-started my morning, and kept me buzzing and energetic throughout the day. I am sure I will be back. A little birdie told me that outdoor boot camps (my favorite) are occasionally thrown into the mix. Interested in checking out a class? Sage does offer a complementary trial session. A perfect way to take that first step and see what they are all about.
