It is true that Sage Studios is not brand new to Queens, nor was it entirely unknown to me. This Astoria Group Training studio is the second outpost for Sage business partners, Jordan Schneider and Daniel Suarez. The first incarnation, Sage Exclusive Fitness, is located in Whitestone, and has been a successful fixture in the Queens fitness community for a number of years. However, there was quite a bit of buzz surrounding the Astoria opening of Sage Studios about a year ago, and the talk never slowed down. I have heard again and again by many friends and acquaintances that I “needed to get my butt down there for a workout or two.” “You will go crazy for the space.” “The format will play to your personality” “You will absolutely love Danny.” I am a little embarrassed that it took me so long to visit, as I live in the neighborhood, but the stars aligned, schedules fell into place, and I was finally able to get that visit. And yes, it was a challenging and energizing experience. Or series of experiences, I should say. I was fortunate to get in a couple of sessions before my deadline, and they were anything but a cakewalk. 46 | BOROMAG.COM | JUNE 2014 THE FORMAT Sage Studios is self-described as a place where boot camp meets personal training. The group training classes are capped at 10 people to offer personal attention and form correction from the trainer, while taking advantage of the motivation provided by working out in a group. Each workout fits into one of four different categories, allowing the client to pick and choose their particular programming: Upper Body, Lower Body, Core & Cardio, and Total Body. The structure of the class includes mobility exercises, warm-up, strength and cardio circuits, and a cool down/stretch. Each workout is different than the previous one, and constructed by the trainer teaching that session. For all of you fans of technology out there, Sage utilizes an application called "Member Me". It is free, downloadable, and full of helpful information. Not only can you see the class schedule and register your spot, but also the app has sections for diet tips, at-home or on-the-road workouts, as well as blog posts, and links to health and fitness articles. Upto date studio news is listed via this app and accompanying social media. BODY & SOUL A Spotlight on STORY hayley bridgewater
