terminal redevelopment
Elected and community leaders praise job creating project

ceremony for its $1.5 billion,
PPP funded, terminal expansion.

JFK Airport Redevelopment,
brought Governor Hochul, Congressman
Meeks, Port Exec.
Director Rick Cotton, QBP Boro
President Donovan Richards,
Delta's Ed Bastian, Schiphol's
Angela Gittens and many other
local elected officials and community
movers and shakers together
with inspiring speeches
about the positive impact on
Queens residents.
Then they all dug in to signify
the beginning the construction
preparation at this the exciting
event propelling the entire
JFK Redevelopment forward.
The terminal 4 expansion
is part of the overall airport rejuvenation
with T1, T4, T6 and
T7 all making major investments
between $17-20 billion
to make JFK the world class
airport. Underlying this grand
plan is the economic engine
that will power 10 of thousands
of jobs, increase minority participation
by 30% of al projects,
bring opportunity to local businesses
and to bring sustainability
and greening of the environment.
Each speaker at the
event touched on one or more
of these major advances, promising
the delivery of all these
goals. Congressman Meeks
and Rick Cotton spoke of the
equity that many will achieve
with contracting opportunities
with the partnership between
JFKIAT and Delta through community
benefits training and
educational programs. QBP
Richards spoke of the support
of local business opportunities
and Governor Hochul praised
all for their hard work and dedication
to getting the deal done.
“This groundbreaking is a
huge part in the story of New
York’s comeback from the hardship
we underwent during the
pandemic,” Governor Hochul
said. “The economic impact of
this transformation will be felt
for decades, while solidifying
our state’s global leading role in
welcoming visitors from abroad
and those returning home. I
look forward to all this partnership
with the Port Authority and
Delta will bring to New York.”
JFKIAT and Delta plan is
for the expansion and renovation
of the Terminal 4 arrivals
and departures hall, a major
concourse expansion to add
10 new gates, the renovation
of existing concourses, and
roadway upgrades to improve
access for vehicles. The expansion
at Terminal 4 is expected
to be complete with
Delta consolidating its operations
in 2023. The expansion
and upgrade of Terminal 4 is
expected to result in over 1,500
total jobs, including over 1,000
union construction jobs. Everyone
is looking forward to 2022
as construction reaches full
throttle and the trip towards a
New JFK takes flight.
