Travel Connections
Catch up with the community news throughout
the airports, from terminal operators, and
stakeholders in their constantly changing
efforts to bring innovations, safety and health
environments to workers and travelers.
Safety and Heath
All individuals entering airport
facilities must masks, practice social
distancing, wash hands and follow
signage. Failure to wear a mask may
result in a $50 fine. Most airlines will
require the same procedures.
Redevelopment Faces
The two faces of the JFK Airport
Redevelopment, Selvena Brooks-
Powers and Nantasha Williams
have tendered their resignations
from their positions as of the redevelopment.
Both will spend their
time running for NYC Queens
Council Seats for District 31 and
District 27 respectively.
Airport Covid Testing
JFK, Newark and LaGuardia all
now have Covid-19 testing centers
at their airports. Travelers may
now have the convenience of taking
a Rapid or PCR test, which can
be used for travel. Some are free,
others can be covered by insurance
and some are out of pocket.
Airlines resuming at JFK
In November, it is planned for
Singapore, Volaris and Kenya Aiwyas
to begin flying after the pandemic
suspension. WestJet is expected
to begin in January. No
timetable for China Southern Air
Europa South African, Hainan, Kuwait.
AeroMexico is set to partner
with Delta.
Covid temperatures
Cargo buildings around airports
are now taking temperatures and
thermal images of employees and
truck drivers to insure no signs
of Covid are detected and spread
through facilities.
Lost Bags
Terminals 1 & 4 at JFK now have
automated lost/damaged baggage
kiosks. Travelers can quickly and
electronically submit claims and
have the found bags returned to
their desired location.
FAA releases waivers
Slots & cargo seat use
Extension of Minimum
Slot Usage Requirements
The FAA issued an extension
of limited waiver
(PDF) of the minimum
slot usage requirements
through March 27, 2021. This slot
usage waiver applies to John F.
Kennedy International Airport
(JFK), New York LaGuardia Airport
(LGA), and Ronald Reagan
Washington National Airport
(DCA). Additionally, the FAA also
extended through March 27, 2021
our COVID-19-related policy for prioritizing
flights canceled at designated
International Air Transport
Association (IATA) Level 2 airports
in the United States for purposes of
establishing a carrier’s operational
baseline in the next corresponding
scheduling season.
The relief announced in this
notice is available for the winter
2020/2021 scheduling season, which
runs from October 25, 2020 through
March 27, 2021. Conditions on the
relief announced in this notice require
compliance beginning on October
15, 2020.
Not every airline supported
the FAA’s waiver
extension. Discounter
Spirit Airlines objected
to the move in comments
to the regulator on Sept.
22. The carrier said extending
waivers was “unacceptably
protective of dominant incumbent
carriers at the expense of the traveling
public and of low-cost carriers
ready and willing to serve.”
FAA Issues New Cargo Exemption,
Amends Existing Cargo Exemption

authorizing airlines to transport
cargo that is secured to the

exemption is valid through July 10,
2021.
The FAA also amended a previously
issued exemption (PDF) that
allows airlines to secure cargo to
passenger seats when no passengers
are in the cabin. The amendment
provides additional crew
training details and extends the exemption
