TSA protecting flyers
Acrylic barriers installed
TSA is installing acrylic barriers
at Newark Liberty International
Airport to help protect passengers
and workforce from he
coronavirus.
Currently there is also a deployment
of face shields being used by
many TSA officers as well by the
baggage check-in and personal
screening prior to entering the airline
departure gates.
The Transportation Security
Administration (TSA) is in the
process of installing new acrylic
barriers at security checkpoints
throughout Newark Liberty International
Airport, and soon after at
JFK & LGA as part of the agency’s
ongoing efforts to implement initiatives
to help prevent the spread of
COVID-19.
The protective barriers are being
installed in areas where TSA
officers typically interact with passengers.
This includes the travel
document checking podium and the
divesting area where travelers prepare
their carry-on property for Xray
screening.
“The installation of these barriers
is just one of many initiatives
that TSA has put in place with the
goal of reducing the likelihood of
cross contamination among travelers
and employees,” said Thomas
Carter TSA’s Federal Security
Director for New Jersey. “These
shields provide an additional layer
of protection to help reduce the
spread of the coronavirus.” TSA
recently awarded a contract to
purchase and install 1,230 acrylic
barriers at 37 priority airports nationwide.
Nearby John F. Kennedy
International and LaGuardia Airports
also are among those airports
scheduled to have the barriers
installed. Additional contracts
for shields for more airports will be
awarded this fall.
New PanAm
cocktail table book
Pan American World
Airways - Images of a Great
Airline 2nd Edition is a pictorial
history of the airline
that highlights its aviation
“Firsts” and notable
achievements. Included
are vintage photographs of
airliners, images of timetable
covers, schedules and
route maps, annual report
covers and baggage strap
tags, all documenting its
storied history from first
flight to last authored by
James Baldwin.
The firsts and significant
events are presented
in chronological order.
The firsts and significant
events are listed at the beginning
of each section
followed by images of that
era of aircraft, timetable
covers and maps, baggage strap
tags and annual reports. The book
is a good reference source for key
events in the life of an important
airline that paved the way to what
the industry is today, and which
was a true aviation pioneer. It is
available now on eBay.
A PanAm exhibits is also available
to see at the Cradle of Aviation
in Garden City, NY.
Fallen Marine Honored
American Airlines thanked
I was a passenger on American
Airlines flight 4 from Los Angeles
to New York.
We met in the baggage claim
area on September 8th. I was hoping
you could pass on to his family how
honored and respectful the employees
and passengers were on that
flight. Before take-off the Captain
made an announcement that we
had the honor of carrying a fallen
Marine and that he was being escorted
by one of his fellow Marines.
The entire plane was honored and
very touched by the event, and an
applause was made by the entire
plane. I doubt very much there was
a dry eye on the plane.
Upon landing the entire plane
sat in silence for probably 30 minutes
and waited patiently for Sgt.
McNeil to deplane and be given the
honor he deserved. Once again
I doubt there was a dry eye on
the plane.
If you can please pass on my condolences
to his family. I read about
his distinguished career as well as
his tragic passing.
God bless you and the great work
you do, and God bless Sgt. McNeil’s
family.
