JFKIAT 4 sustainability
Report highlights culture
John F. Kennedy International
Airport’s Terminal 4, one of the
world’s most modern and efficient
airport terminals, announced its
2019 sustainability report, which
highlights T4’s environmentally
friendly culture across all of its
operations from waste management,
indoor environmental quality,
purchasing, and food and beverage
sustainability initiatives.
The report is JFKIAT’s first annual
report published that references
the Global Reporting Initiative
and Airport Operator Sector
Supplement.
“At T4, sustainability is a deeply
ingrained, constantly practiced,
and continually evolving mission
that impacts many facets of the
terminal’s operations and experience,”
said Roel Huinink, President
and CEO of JFKIAT. “We are proud
of the promising strides we have
made over the past year towards
achieving our sustainability goals,
and are committed to prioritizing
initiatives that reduce our carbon
footprint. As our industry continues
to evolve in response to the COVID
19 pandemic, we look forward
to continuing to improve our practices
to maintain a sustainable and
healthy facility for our employees
and passengers.”
Some of JFKIAT’s achievements
at T4 highlighted in the report include:
Reducing overall energy consumption
by 3%
Increasing waste recycling by
12% over 2018
Converting 70% of lighting in
public areas to LED lighting
Completing a baseline carbon
emissions study, in addition to performing
carbon footprint calculations
and verification
Completing a retro-commissioning
HVAC equipment into the B
Concourse
Planning electric charging stations
Completing LEED tracking in
Arc, a digital platform to track sustainability
As part of its continued commitment
to sustainability and energy
efficiency, JFKIAT will track progress
at T4 and continue to implement
programs that enhance these
efforts.

Proud Supporter of Breast
Cancer Awareness Month
and every month.
Sue
Baer
A mother and wife, a colleague
and peer, a mentor
and my dear friend who lost
her battle with Breast Cancer
August 9,2016.
She paved the way for the
future of women in a male
dominated aviation industry
with heart and conviction.
She will always be remembered
for her wit and
her infectious smile but
most of all her giving heart.
Sue was the only person,
man or woman, to manage
all three major metropolitan
airports run by the Port Authority — JFK International, LaGuardia and
Newark Liberty International. Before transitioning to the agency’s Aviation
Department, she also ran the Port Authority Bus Terminal and the
Lincoln Tunnel.
Patty
Clark
Port Authority Aviation
Chief Strategy Officer
Patty Clark will retire on
October 23rd after 24-years
with the agency and more
than 30-years of public service.
Dubbed the “Mother of
AirTrain JFK,” Clark was
brought to the Port in 1996
to help the agency advance
the project, which carried
nearly 21 million fare/nonfare
paying customers in
2019 combined. Since then,
she has been a tireless advocate
for the traveling public,
advancing fair and competitive
air-access to one of the world’s most congested airport systems. Clark
was also instrumental in saving the “Survivor Steps” which carried her
and many others to safety on September 11, 2001. They stand today in the
National September 11th Museum & Memorial. She is also a Breast Cancer
survivor. Like her close friend and colleague, the late Susan Baer, Clark
has been a trailblazer for women in aviation and has had a profound impact
on those who work for and with her. Her team wishes her a well-deserved,
restful retirement. She will be missed.
