AIRPORT VOICE, JUNE 2020 11
Continued from page 1
The ceremonial grand
opening of the LaGuardia
Gateway Partners (LGP) Terminal
B head house at La-
Guardia Airport was a long
time coming. On June 12, Governor
enthusiastically opened
this airport milestone along
with Port Authority Executive
Director Rick Cotton the Port
Authority airport redevelopment
team, LGP and its partners
Vantage Group, Meridiam,
JLC and terminal airlines
American, Air Canada, Southwest
and United.
The amazing structure is
reminiscent of museum grandeur
with cool, open architecture
blended with artistic
appreciation and practical
pathways for passenger security
and comfort.
The four levels of the building
include separate central
transportation, departures
and arrivals roadways all
leading to a passenger concourse
fi lled with an unbelievable
mix of retail shops, restaurants,
all woven between
works of art and a fanciful water
fountain.
Governor Cuomo said in
his opening comments in the
departures hall of the terminal,
“As we continue to upgrade
and modernize this airport
for the 21st century, this
new state-of-the-art hall will
offer passengers a unique
travel experience with new
concessions, traveler amenities
and art installations by
four of the world’s leading artists,
while increasing space
for passengers to move more
safely and effi ciently during
and after the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“We’re thrilled to open
the Arrivals and Departures
Hall to our passengers traveling
through the brand new
Terminal B,” said Stewart
Steeves, Chief Executive Offi
cer of LaGuardia Gateway
Partners. “No one anticipated
completing and opening
during such challenging
and uncertain times.
But New Yorkers are rising
to this challenge and we will
be stronger for it. The way
in which we travel is changing,
and we’re committed to
creating a brand new Terminal
B that incorporates an
innovative design and an exceptional
guest experience,
while also maintaining the
highest level of safety for our
passengers.

Behind Govornor Cuomo is one of the 4 permanent
works of art in the new TerminalB. There are hundreds
of photographs hanging in the piece, each representing
a photo of the city sky shot during one day. Artist
Sarah Sze titles this "Passage of Time" or perhaps
whimsically. Time flies.

Here arriving visitors from around the world are greeted with infamous words from the
former New Deal Mayor, as LGA is now part of the New Deal airport infrastructure in NYC
initiated by Governor Cuomo.
