Airports COVID
TESTING Locations
Due to increased testing demand, it is strongly
recommended for departing international
travelers to complete required COVID-19
testing prior to coming to the airport.
For international flights, travelers
must verify the type of test required
for each trip with their airline and destination
country. Some destinations
require tests to be conducted by specific
labs. Please check with your airline
for additional details. Individuals
who have questions about COVID-19
testing should call the New York State
COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-364-3065
or visit the NYSDOH website.

Antique gun
confiscated at Newark
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
made it into the Transportation Security Administration’s
(TSA) list of Top 10 List of most
unusual items found nationwide at security
checkpoints in 2021. TSA released the list in
an on-line video it posted on the agency’s Twitter
account.
What was the item from the airport that
ranked as #9 on the Top 10 List?
On August 21, 2021, the TSA officers at
EWR detected a long-barreled revolver with
a wooden grip that looked very much like an
antique pistol. It was the type of handgun that
you might have seen pulled during one of several
movie shootouts in “Butch Cassidy and
the Sundance Kid,” the “Gunfight at the O.K.
Corral” or “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”
According to Civil War buff Phil Jensen of
WFS, this is an 1858 Remington Army .44 Caliber
black powder percussion Pistol 7 model.
This current collectable value is around $350.
During check-in, a passenger needs to go
to the airline ticket counter to declare the firearm,
ammunition and any firearm parts. Guns
can be transported on a flight if they are unloaded,
packed in a locked, hard-sided case
and declared to the airline. The airline will be sure that the gun travels with
checked baggage in the plane belly.
Civil penalties for bringing a handgun into a checkpoint can stretch into thousands
of dollars, depending on mitigating circumstances with or without permits.
