With over 150 young musicians, members of the Corona Youth Music Projects orchestras, choir and orchestral initiation ensembles, the event will celebrate the growth of Núcleo Corona during 2013. The Project is the fi rst “El Sistema,” a global movement of social action through music, inspired program in Queens. This includes after-school programs and intensive seminars and camps. Join the musicians from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Museum to hear the movement that they have created. Admission will be $8 for adults and children over 12, $4 for students and seniors and free for all children under 12. On Friday, December 13, join Grammy-nominated jazz guitarist and composer Amanda Monaco at Flushing Town Hall. She will be bringing her quartet, “Formula One,” to play original compositions inspired by car racing. These songs will be intertwined with favorite songs of the holiday season to keep the holiday spirit alive. SATURDAY, DEC. 14 Queensborough Performing Arts Center presents “Karaoke at the Movies: Aladdin.” The program is a family-oriented, interactive fi lm series that encourages total audience participation. The crowd can sing and dance along with their favorite characters on screen! Movies are captioned. A trivia contest will be held before the movie. Queensborough Performing Arts Center is located at 222-05 56th Avenue in Bayside. “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas” Dec. 21-23 & December 26- Jan. 1, This holiday season, the imaginative, playful, and creative fi lm and television work of Jim Henson will be celebrated by the Museum of the Moving Image in the screening series “Jim Henson’s World.” Beginning Dec. 21 the museum will screen “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas.” This television special tells the story of Ma Otter and her son Emmet, who both secretly enter a talent contest to win money for Christmas presents for each other. These screenings also include Kermit the Frog’s segments, as well as outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage. Museum of the Moving Image is located at 36-01 35th Avenue, Astoria, New York. Shirley Romaine, noted actress and TV personality, will be celebrating Long Island’s historical and vibrant artistic community. She will be reading from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby and works from other writers including Ring Lardner, Walt Whitman, William Cullen Bryant, Herman Wouk, Lila Zeigar, Norbert Krapf, George Bogin and Muriel Spanier. The event will begin at 3 p.m. at the Museum. Admission is $15 ($5 for members) and includes Museum admission. Parking will be $2 (free for members). The evening features Camille Saint-Saëns’ masterpiece “Oratorio de Noël” and Francis Poulenc’s powerful “Gloria.” Adam Eggleston will be the conductor for the evening.
