THE HOT TOPIC STORY: Burger King in Rego Park gets into the Halloween Spirit by dressing as McDonald’s SUMMARY: A Burger King franchise in Rego Park donned a ghost costume on the restaurant and the sign that had the iconic golden arches and the word “McDonald’s” spray painted on the side. REACH: 15,244 people reached (as of 10/31/16) There are many things which distinguish Hillary Clinton from her opponent in the presidential race, but the one thing that stands out above them all is respect. Hillary Clinton respects the progress we’ve made as a country the last eight years. She won’t tear down the tremendous legacy President Barack Obama will leave behind next January. She’ll continue to grow our already strong economy, and work to make it more fair for everyone. She’ll work to fi x the problems in our healthcare system. She’ll keep our country strong in the face of any threat, foreign or domestic. Hillary Clinton respects women. She believes women deserve equal pay in the workplace. She recognizes the importance of women being in control of their own bodies. Look no further than her eloquent, thoughtful defense of reproductive rights in the third presidential debate, when she said the government has no place infringing on a woman’s right to make the most diffi cult of choices. Hillary Clinton respects diversity. She calls for immigration reform that won’t tear families apart. She respects people of all faiths and walks of life and believes everyone can make a positive contribution to our society. She doesn’t condemn an entire group for the actions of a few. Hillary Clinton respects democracy. When the polls turned against her in 2008 and she eventually lost the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama, she didn’t dismiss the entire process as rigged or threaten to delegitimize Obama’s nomination. She rallied Democrats behind him, actively worked for his election and then served for four years as his secretary of state. However, for all her service to this nation, Hillary Clinton is treated with incredible disrespect, and that’s a disgrace. Over the last 25 years, Clinton has endured one investigation after another, one scandal after another. Republicans have spent years and millions of dollars in taxpayer money trying to take her down, and each of their efforts failed miserably. She was never arrested, tried or convicted of anything for which she was accused. Each time, she was exonerated. Instead of making Hillary weaker, they made Hillary stronger. Instead of disqualifying her from the presidency, they have proven her qualifi cation beyond a shadow of any doubt. Instead of putting up a worthy rival to defeat her in this election, they nominated an utterly disrespectful man who denigrates everything that makes this country the great place that it is. We know, of course, that there are a faction of people in this city and across the nation who will never respect Hillary Clinton; some won’t accept her as their commander in chief. They’ve convicted her in their own minds long ago. They will never be convinced of anything else. That’s their choice. Let the haters hate while we, who love our country and believe it already to be great, move on with our lives — and move forward with Hillary Clinton, a woman deserving of our respect and our votes. The Queens Courier is proud to say we’re with her.
