Richard “Kwasi” Springer, 29, of Jamaica was booked for his role in a robbery and assault that took place on Oct. 15 at Sutphin King Deli and Grill, located at 107-60 Sutphin Blvd. At 8:10 a.m. that morning, according to published reports, 69-year-old Eve Gentillon was outside of Sutphin King Deli and Grill when Springer left the location after allegedly stealing beer from the store. Police said Springer struck Gentillon in the head once with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground. He then took off in an unknown direction. Officers from the 103rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the location. Gentillon was rushed to Jamaica Hospital. She reportedly suffered a brain hemorrhage and is in stable condition. According to the NYPD, Springer was convicted of robbery in 2006. His last known residence is on 109th Avenue in Jamaica. A video released by Sutphin King Deli and Grill shows Springer assaulting the victim. According to District Attorney Richard A. Brown, Springer is presently awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on charges of second-degree assault, second-degree assault (elderly person over 65), thirddegree assault and second-degree harassment. If convicted, Springer faces up to seven years in prison. 103rd Precinct Jamaica Jamaica man killed in weekend shooting was previously convicted of manslaughter: cops A Jamaica man who was shot to death at a neighborhood intersection on Oct. 30 died nearly 15 years after being convicted for his role in another man’s killing, law enforcement sources said. Niheen Donigan, 36, was fatally shot in the head while standing with a group of people at the corner of 109th Avenue and 171st Street at about 2:18 a.m. on Sunday morning, Oct. 30. The motive for the shooting remains unclear. According to police, Donigan, who resided on 110th Avenue in Jamaica, was among the group when the unidentified shooter began firing. The suspect remains at large. Officers from the 103rd Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Donigan was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. No other injuries were reported. Law enforcement records revealed that Donigan had been convicted of first-degree manslaughter in April 2002 for his role in a deadly shooting a year earlier. The Times-Ledger reported that Donigan allegedly shot Aswald Walker, 28, at the corner of 107th Avenue and 160th Street in Jamaica on April 14, 2001 during a dispute over drugs. Donigan served 10 years for the manslaughter conviction before he was released on parole in July 2012, according to the state Department of Corrections. The investigation into Donigan’s murder is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding Sunday’s deadly shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, visit their website or send a text message to 274637 (CRIMES), then enter TIP577. Kennedy Airport over the weekend of Oct. 20. At around 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 20, according to the Port Authority Police Department, a 60-year-old man from China placed $4,300 in U.S. currency and $1,300 in yen into a bin prior to a routine security screening before boarding a plane. The man went through the screening point as directed and when he went to retrieve his money from the bin, he found that it was gone. Port Authority police responded to the incident. After reviewing security footage, authorities walked onto an Air Emirates flight located at Gate A-6. The suspect was located on the plane and the U.S. currency was found inside of a Cheerios box that was kept inside her carry-on bag. The yen was located in the same compartment of the carry-on bag. The money was then returned to the victim. There were no disruptions in airport operations. The suspect was identified as Nadira D. Mallik, 61, of Khildon, Bangladesh. She was arrested on charges of grand larceny. An airplane carrying Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence skidded off a runway at La Guardia Airport on Oct. 27. Pence along with his family, staff members, reporters and crew members were on board the Eastern Airlines charter when it made the rough landing at about 7:41 p.m. on Oct. 27. No injuries were reported, and the candidate along with others on board the flight safely departed the plane. According to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates La Guardia Airport, the jet appeared to have overshot one of the airport’s two runways. That runway remains closed while the investigation continues. Citing Port Authority officials, ABC News reported that the plane hit a concrete barrier at the end of the runway, preventing the jet from skidding onto Grand Central Parkway. Pence, governor of Indiana and running mate to Donald Trump, flew to New York to attend a fundraiser. Five hours earlier, he tweeted a picture of him throwing a football in front of the jet before taking off from Iowa. He noted that he was passing the time due to a “ground hold at La Guardia.” He took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the assistance of first responders at the scene. It was just another blemish on the track record for La Guardia Airport, which had a plane skid off the runway during a winter storm in March 2015. The airport was rated this week dead last among 29 other airports across the country in reliable performance.
