Exp. 11/30/16 CUTLER’S LIGHTING CUTLER’S LIGHTING question in their latest study: How many billionaires would it take to purchase each borough? To answer the question, researchers poured over Forbes’ World Billionaires List. They also multiplied the total number of residential units in a neighborhood (single- and two-family houses, condo and co-op units) by the average sale price recorded in that neighborhood for the third quarter of 2016, resulting in an approximate value for said neighborhood. The study focused on Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Queens was the cheapest of the three and the top three billionaires could purchase the entire borough for $192.5 billion. Who are the world’s top three billionaires? Bill Gates, Amancio Ortega and Warren Buffet. Gates, the founder of Microsoft, has a net worth of $75 billion, according to Forbes. Ortega, the founder of clothing company Zara, is a new addition on the list and is worth $67 billion. He knocked off Mexico’s Carlos Slim, who owns global conglomerate company Grupo Carso. Buffet, who is worth $60.8 billion, is the founder of conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway. The world’s top six billionaires could purchase Brooklyn for $245 billion and it would take the top 12 billionaires to put down approximately $578 billion to purchase Manhattan. Bill Gates Warren Buffet
