Suspect apprehended
after escaping police
custody in Briarwood
Police have apprehended a man who
escaped custody in Briarwood on the
morning of Tuesday, Oct. 15.
According to the NYPD, just before 8:30
a.m. on Oct. 15, offi cers arrested Johensal
Martetejaba, 29, who had a warrant
out for his arrest for an assault in June.
Martetejaba was cuff ed and placed inside
a police van, and when the van stopped
at a stop sign at the intersection of 136th
Street and 83rd Drive, Martetejaba managed
to get the van door open and took
off running.
A spokesperson for the NYPD confi
rmed that the suspect was taken back
into police custody at 9:15 a.m. at 135th
Street and Grand Central Parkway.

Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck
Decomposed body found
in Little Neck apartment
Police discovered a “badly decomposed”
body inside of a Little Neck apartment
on the aft ernoon of Sunday, Oct. 13.
Officers responded to a 911 call at
3:36 p.m. on Oct. 13 regarding an
unconscious individual inside of an
apartment unit at 251-26 Northern
Blvd. Upon arriving at the scene, officers
discovered the unconscious
body, which was “badly decomposed,”
according to authorities.
EMS arrived at the scene and confi rmed
the body was dead.
Th e Medical Examiner is working to
determine the cause of death.

Woodhaven
Woodhaven man found
dead outside his house
Cops are investigating the death of
a 41-year-old man who was found
dead outside his Woodhaven home on
Monday, Oct. 14.
Police responded to a 911 call just
aft er 6 a.m. on Oct. 14 regarding an
unconscious man in front of 76-20 Park
Lane South. Upon arriving at the scene,
offi cers found Paul Tapia lying on the
ground unconscious and unresponsive.
EMS arrived and declared Tapia dead
at the scene, authorities said.
Th e Medical Examiner is working to
determine the cause of death and the
investigation remains ongoing.
110th Precinct
Elmhurst, Corona
Man injured after
slashing in Corona
Th e NYPD is investigating an early
morning slashing that left a man injured
in Corona on Monday, Oct. 14.
Police say that at around 5 a.m. on
Oct. 14, offi cers from the 110th Precinct
responded to a call at a deli located at
41-01 103rd St. Upon their arrival, offi -
cers found that a man had been stabbed
or slashed in the arm at the location following
a dispute with an unknown man.
Th e suspect, who is described as a
Hispanic man wearing a black hoodie, fl ed
the scene to parts unknown. EMS took the
victim to an area hospital in stable condition.
At this time, it is not immediately
clear what caused the dispute between
the two men.
A report from the Citizen app indicated
that the victim may have been slashed
with a machete, however the NYPD
could not confi rm this detail.
No arrests have been made at this time
and the investigation is ongoing.
