Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said that Roman Gorbunov was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court in front of Judge Peter Vallone on Saturday, Oct. 8, and was charged with second degree murder, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and concealment of a human corpse. According to the criminal complaint provided by the Queens DA’s office, Gorbunov got into an argument with his mother, Lyubov Gorbunova, 58, inside of her Rego Park apartment on Sept. 27. It is alleged that during the argument Gorbunov struck his mother in the head with a plate, then proceeded to attack her with a blunt instrument, fatally wounding her. Gorbunov then allegedly put his mother’s body into a bodybag and then into a garbage can. He called a car service to bring him and the garbage can to Flushing Meadows Corona Park, where he allegedly deposited the body into Willow Lake. Police discovered the body in the lake on the morning of Oct. 8. Gorbunov is being held without bail, and is expected to return to court on Oct. 21. Detectives from the 112th Precinct were joined by the Queens Homicide North Detective Squad in investigating this crime. Ozone Park man gets decade in slammer for dealing cocaine & guns in Brooklyn An Ozone Park man will be spending the next 10 years behind bars for unknowingly selling 17 guns and cocaine to undercover police officers over a two-month period in Brooklyn. Everton Gonzalez, 24, along with Arverne‘s Omar Cobb, 21, and Zameer Khan, 21, were initially arrested as a result of an two-month investigation that began in November 2014. As part of the probe, undercover officers made numerous gun and drug purchases in the area of Liberty Avenue and Drew Street in the City Line section of Brooklyn and in the vicinity of Beach 59th Street and Larkin Avenue in Far Rockaway. According to Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson, Gonzalez made a number of deals with an undercover officer. Reportedly, Gonzalez sent Cobb, his cousin, to deliver the guns, but when Cobb claimed that he couldn’t get to Brooklyn, he insisted that the undercover officer travel to Queens to purchase the weapons. Prosecutors said Khan also collaborated with Cobb in the illegal transactions, selling 60 grams of what was purported to be crack cocaine to an undercover officer for $3,500. Testing of the substance, however, revealed that the product did not contain narcotics. Over the course of the investigation, officers purchased from the trio a wide variety of firearms including 9 mm pistols and assault weapons, a .44-caliber Ruger revolver, a .357 Ruger revolver and a .38-caliber Argentina revolver. They also purchased four ounces of genuine crack cocaine. Gonzalez pleaded guilty in April to seconddegree criminal sale of a controlled substance and second-degree criminal sale of a firearm. He was sentenced on Wednesday, Oct. 5, to serve 10 years in prison. “This defendant put public safety at risk by selling guns, and his conviction and sentence is another step toward ending gun violence in our communities,” Thompson said in a statement on Thursday, Oct. 6. Both Cobb and Khan previously pleaded guilty to charges of criminal sale of a firearm and are now serving prison sentences of seven and five years, respectively. Robber who viciously beat an elderly man on board M train in Ridgewood is cuffed Police have made an arrest in connection with a vicious robbery on board an M train in Ridgewood this past weekend in which a 66-year-old man was seriously beaten. Authorities said the attack took place at midnight on Sunday, Oct. 9, on board a Manhattan bound M train before it arrived at the Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues station on the Ridgewood/ Bushwick border. According to police, the 66-year-old male victim was approached by the suspect — identified as Troy Sales, 26, of Brooklyn — who knocked him to the floor of the car. Sales allegedly proceeded to punch and kick the man; the video, taken on an eyewitness’ cellphone, showed the victim struggling with the suspect, who grabbed him by the collar and shook him. Police said Sales managed to take the victim’s cellphone and wallet, which contained $20 in cash and a credit card. The video showed the crook opening the wallet and looking through it before placing it in his pocket. The suspect exited the train upon arrival at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues. Officers from the 83rd Precinct and the NYPD Transit Bureau responded to the incident. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries including lacerations to his face and a broken rib; he is listed in serious but stable condition. Following an investigation, police took Sales into custody on Oct. 11 and charged him with robbery.
