What is Spinal Decompression Therapy? Spinal Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical drug-free procedure that is safe and pain free. It is currently being utilized by many practitioners who have been administering decompression since the 1980s and receive great reviews from the American Journal of Pain Management. Decompression Therapy provides relief by gently separating the bones of the spine, reducing the pressure within the disc. Decompression treats the source of the pain caused by bulge or disc herniation. Treatment is computer controlled and very comfortable. All procedures are administered with the patient fully clothed and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the 20 minute session. Decompression is highly effective for adults who have stenosis due to the lumbar or cervical disc herniation. At the conclusion of the procedure series, patients are given mobilization and strengthening exercise to avoid further injury and prevent the original problem from returning. What Conditions does Spinal Decompression Therapy Treat? • Back Pain/Lumbago • Spinal Stenosis • Neck Pain/Cervicalgia • Herniated or Bulging Discs • Leg Pain/Sciatica/Radiculopathy • Spondylosis • Disc Degeneration How long does each Decompression Session Last? Therapy sessions are typically less than 20 minutes and most patients feel pain relief with as few as 6-10 treatments. It is important to remember, however, that pain reduction does not necessarily mean that your discs and spine are healed, so it is critical that patients stick with the treatment protocol prescribed by their doctors in order to achieve the full value of the treatment. How often is Treatment required and How Beneficial is it? Spinal Decompression Therapy is a pain-free alternative medical treatment that has shown a very high rate of success at reducing or even eliminating back and neck pain. However, if you suffer from chronic, debilitating low back or neck pain, call us today to make an appointment to see if you’re a candidate for Decompression Therapy. Our CNS Rehabilitation clinic is dedicated to offering the latest, state of the art therapies for lower back pain, sciatica pain relief, pinched nerve, neck pain relief, stenosis, and bulging or degenerative disc diseases; Spinal Decompression Therapy is the most advanced, pain-free alternative medicine to spine surgery. Spinal Decompression Therapy is a gentle non-surgical treatment that works by restoring proper function to an injured spinal disc. This is done by producing a controlled mechanical traction on the spine using our Decompression table. During the pull phase, injured discs are gently stretched apart, producing a suction force inside the disc. This draws the bulges and herniations back into the center of the disc along with oxygen, water, and other essential healing substances. If the decompression is successful, the disc remains healthy even after the treatment is finished. Decompression Therapy can be a legitimate alternative to surgery. You don’t have to live in debilitating pain. Whether you have lower back pain, a pinched nerve, sciatica, neck pain, a variety of symptoms related to damaged or degenerative discs, or syndromes of the lower back and neck. Spinal Decompression Therapy will help you. Testimonial from a patient who has been suffering fromlow back and neck pain for months: I am 51 years old. Since childhood I was always active in sports, from handball to baseball, football, and etc. As I got older, another passion of mine was working in construction. I worked for several high profile companies throughout the years. In 2003, I was working for MTV. One day in May, I was throwing out old furniture into a dumpster by the docks. Two days later I experienced a pain that ran from my lower back to the tip of my toes. It was an intense pain mixed with numbness, something that I had never felt before. At the hospital I was diagnosed with sciatica caused by a herniated disk in my lumbar. After the first incident I was feeling better for several months and I continued working as usual. In October of that same year, as I was crossing the street, near the corner by where I live, I was hit by a car and landed hard in the middle of the streets, two vehicles away. Although I didn’t break any bones, there were damage to my left shoulder, (in which I received optoscopic surgery for repairs to my ligaments). Upon getting hit and landing on the ground, I felt my insides move and shift. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. It was during that time that I started going to pain management at Elmhurst Hospital, as well as, a “no default” clinic for treatment for my back. From 2003 to on or about 2007, I was given exercises to do, medications to take, which had not worked other than make me addicted to them. Sure, they took the pain away, but since I couldn’t feel the pain I continued to work in construction, and didn’t know that I was making matters worse for my entire back. In December 2008, I was hospitalized at Beth Israel Hospital for back problems. While there, I was given a complete MRI of my spine, which showed several degenerated disk, bulging disk, and herniated disk. Since Beth Israel specializes in spinal cords I stopped going to Elmhurst Hospital. I’ve been going to a pain management referred by Beth Israel since then. But it’s the same story as that of Elmhurst with the injections, medications, and exercises. In December of last year (2012), my girlfriend spoke to me about a new physical therapy clinic that opened one block from where we live. At first I was reluctant to even look at the place, but she kept insisting for us to go(she also suffers from back and neck problems). So I gave in and went to see what the clinic has to offer. There I met with Dr. Kim and we talked for a few minutes, briefly about my back problem. Yet, I was skeptical because it’s been my experience that many doctors will tell you that they can fix your problem and paint you a beautiful picture. But there is something different about Dr. Kim. I immediately felt his positive energy. At the end of our meeting I agreed to give him the opportunity to work on my back and neck. It had been around 2 years since I had any relief on my right side of my neck. To my amazement, and I truly mean that, the first week that I began getting treated by Dr. Kim, I could actually turn my neck without any pain. It’s now a month since I’ve been seeing Dr. Kim, and I am feeling a great improvement than in the last ten years since I started having neck and back problems. Therefore, I take my hat off to Dr. Kim, who has done so much in such little time. From Jose R. Viera, and I feel honored to have met Dr. Kim.
