Freelancers and coff ee addicts alike
know the importance of a good coff ee
shop. Th e best ones come with a perfect
balance of high-quality brew, something
to nosh on and a comfortable, welcoming
place to enjoy them. With the continued
popularity of third-wave coff ee —
that is, those who consider coff ee an art
in itself — Astoria residents have a range
of excellent options. I packed up my laptop,
threw on my best beanie, and set off
to raise my blood-caff eine levels in some
of the most unique environs Astoria has
to off er.

With two locations just a stone’s
throw away from each other, you have
options at Kinship Coff ee. Th e smaller,
original location at 30-05 can fi ll up
quickly, although its large, round table
makes visitors feel like they’re lounging
in someone’s chic, Nordic-style kitchen.
If it gets too cramped, head down to
the much more spacious 32-14 location.
Th ere, a large communal table and plenty
of booth seating welcomes freelancers
and coff ee afi cionados with soft , recessed
lighting and a soundtrack loud enough
to drown out any sensitive conversation.
Th e menu includes healthy, hip and
hearty standards like avocado toast and
grain bowls, as well as house-baked
sweet treats. Stumptown coff ee and tea
options include the basics, as well as
a few adventurous forays. I especially
loved the maple cold brew. Real maple
syrup and a little cream balances out
Kinship’s bracingly bitter cold brew for
a drink that’s eye-opener and dessert all
in one.
