The Queens Museum’s Jank Archives Collection will be at Corona Plaza this Saturday conducting an investigation into the history of insult humor from various cultures across the world and the integral nature they have in relation to human interaction. The event will be from 2 to 6 p.m. and is free as a part of Queens International 2016. Corona Plaza can be found along Roosevelt Avenue between 104th and National streets in Corona. SUNDAY, MAY 1 The Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives will be welcoming speakers Peter Grose and Drs. Bebe and Owen Bernstein to share a presentation about the story of an isolated community in the upper reaches of the Loire Valley that was responsible for harboring more than 3,500 Jews during WWII, ultimately saving them from perishing in Germany’s concentration camps. The presentation is free and goes from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center can be found at 222-05 56th Ave. in Bayside. The Greater Astoria Historical Society will host a walking tour of Hamilton Park and Liedy’s Tavern this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Hamilton Park encompasses the fi nest enclave of homes on the island of Staten Island through which tour participants will trek before stopping for a beer at historical Liedy’s Tavern, the oldest bar on Staten Island. The tour is approximately 2.5 hours and registration fee is $20 with a discounted price of $15 for GAHS members. Registered attendees are to meet up in front of Manhattan’s South Ferry entrance where a ferry will be taken at 11 a.m. to Staten Island, where a bus will be boarded to Hamilton Park. This Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m., the Queens Museum will be inviting musician and teacher Sami Abu Shamays to host an interactive workshop exploring the musical tradition of Syria and Egypt. The class will survey some of the greatest musicians from the past 100 years that the two countries have to offer and will feature a guest percussionist handpicked by Shamays himself. Students of any musical skill level are welcome. Admission is free but registration is required through the museum’s website. MONDAY, MAY 2 The executive director of the Greater Astoria Historical Society, Bob Singleton, invites you to a discussion about what happened after the Flushing Remonstrance. At this 7 p.m. lecture, Singleton will expound the impact of the Flushing Remonstrance on the establishment of religious freedom during the era and similar efforts that echoed this historical document. Admission is free for GAHS members and $5 for nonmembers. The GAHS is located on the fourth fl oor of the Quinn Building at 35-20 Broadway in Long Island City. WEDNESDAY, MAY 4 The Alley Pond Environmental Center invites budding middle school scientists to explore the nature trails of Alley Pond as part of a four-week program called Tween Trekkers that gives young scientists the opportunity to delve into the many ecosystems that comprise the park. The enrollment fee is $30 per class per child and materials and a backpack will be provided for the program, which is limited to 12 participants. The APEC is located at 228-06 Northern Blvd. in Douglaston. In celebration of Jane Jacobs’ 100th birthday, Manducatis Rustica will be hosting a panel discussion exploring the legacy of Jane Jacobs and the forces that have developed Long Island City and western Queens in general into what it is today, along with what Jane Jacobs might say about its commercial boom over the last 20 or so years. Stand Up Wars is back at QED this Wednesday featuring comics from Comedy Central, “America’s Got Talent,” MTV and more from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is $5 like always and this month’s show will be hosted by Jacob Williams. The Museum of the Moving Image will host a screening of “Pierrot le Fou” followed by a live panel with Anna Karina, who is featured in the fi lm as the babysitter the protagonist has an affair with. The event will be in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the fi lm’s 1965 release. Tickets are $25 with a discounted price of $18.75 for students, seniors and museum members at the Film Lovers level. The event begins at 7 p.m. and the MOMI is located at 36-01 35th Ave. in Astoria. THURSDAY, MAY 5 This Thursday at the Knockdown Center, CT:SWaM will be presenting two audio-visual performance works: “All the More My Thoughts Multiply” by Jane Rigler and Elizabeth Hoffman, and “The Audio Visual Matrix” by diNMachine. The show goes from 7 to 10 p.m. and admission is $10. The Knockdown Center can be found at 52-19 Flushing Ave. in Maspeth.
