Fourteen-year-old piano prodigy Huang Tiange has a solo recital,
where he will perform classic pieces from artists such as Scarlatti,
Gershwin, Chopin, Beethoven and Prokofiev at Flushing Town Hall.
Part of the 10th Huange Tiange Festival, this 95-minute performance
gives his audience an extremely powerful and masterfully curated
show. Presented in cities all over the world, Tiange will showcase two
premieres of his own sonata and Wang Hua’s Suite Ba Shan Yu Shui.

Newtown Literary Alliance offers free poetry writing classes for kids
ages 8 to 12 in Jackson Heights. This class, “Epic Poems: Our Heroes,
Ourselves” will be taught by poet and Newtown Literary contributor
Pichchenda Bao. In this interactive workshop, participants will study
the basics for creating a narrative poem. Spark your child’s passion for
writing with this free poetry writing class at Queens Library at Jackson
Heights.

11 Almost every day of the
week, Queens Botanical
Garden offers a variety of interesting
classes for all ages. On
Saturday, QBG will host a macramé
class. Taught by Melissa Taylor, this
class will teach attendees how to
design their own piece, focusing on
creating a hanging planter. QBG even
provides a selection of prime plants
for your creations. This is recommended
for adults and children over
the age of 10. Children must be
accompanied by a participating adult.
Registration is required, but drop-ins
are welcome upon availability.

Center offers a course for
young chefs, where they have the
opportunity to create homemade
delicious bolognese cuisine. This
recipe allows participants to make
traditional sauce from Italy, ricotta
stuffing, and pasta all under 90 minutes.
These young chefs will enjoy the
fruits of their labor when they get to
try their flavorful pasta dishes. Make
a good, old-fashioned Italian meal at
APEC on Saturday. Visit the APEC for
other learning experiences in environmental
education almost everyday of
the week.

Top Rope Climbing
Competition will take place at
Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge.
Their Citizens Rope Competition is
back for another round. According
to Brooklyn Boulders, the competition
will be in redpoint format, where
competitors will receive points for
route completion. The five most valuable
routes will be the competitor’s
final score. Attempts will be used
to break ties. Participants will compete
in the following categories: recreational,
intermediate, expert and
masters. Awards will be given out
at 9 p.m. following the competition.

of Science to experience the
Flight of the Butterflies, a 3-D movie
that takes visitors on a treacherous
yet captivating journey. In the
3-D theater, visitors are a part of the
monarch butterfly’s journey. Visitors
watch their migration patterns closely,
witnessing thousands fly through
the peaks of Mexico. Experience what
40 years of research looks like to find
the monarch butterfly’s secret hideaway.
Washington Post described the
3-D film as “engrossing.” The exhibit will
run from July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019.

16 The outdoor art installation
“Standing Ovation:
African Diva Project” in Queens
celebrates some of the biggest
black female singers in entertainment.
Standing Ovation has select
figures from The African Diva Project,
printed to life-size, and installed on the
Jamaica Performing Arts Center lawn.
The installation has been praised by
artist curator Margaret Rose Vendryes.
This installation lasts until March 25.

offers free weekly events
for senior citizens who want to
exercise and dance. Instructed by

Senior for one of their weekly events,
Rhythm’s Gonna Get You. The center

workshops, exercise classes,
discussion groups, games, art classes,
lectures, workshops, health screenings,

18 Relative Fields in a
Garden, a multimedia season
installation is at The Queens
Museum. This exhibition features an
artistic mother-daughter collaboration.
Created by mother Liz Philips and
daughter Heidi Howard, this 40-foot
wall combines Howard’s vivid portrait
with Philips’ sound work, which creates
interactive sound fields. As a part
of the museum’s large wall series, the
museum has featured yearlong commissions
by women-identified artists.
