Rock out & hang out
at ‘classic’ Astoria bar
BY DANIEL GROGAN
BORO Magazine
Special to The Courier
Since its opening in November 2018,
NYMF Bar has provided locals with
something that owner Frank Joseph
believed was missing from Astoria.
“I grew up loving classic rock and heavy
metal … man, a lot of places in Astoria
have that chi-chi vibe to it,” Joseph said.
“Drinks are way overpriced. I thought,
where’s the local watering hole where you
can just have a good time, let your hair
down and have a beer and a shot. And so
far, it seems like the neighborhood is really
digging it.”
NYMF, or New York Motorcycle
Foundry, was born out of Joseph’s love
for motorcycle culture. His clothing
brand, Hard Rider NYC Apparel, embodies
this culture; heavy emphasis is placed
on community pride and a rock ’n’ roll
lifestyle, two things which Joseph is passionate
about. So when Joseph was presented
with the opportunity to open a bar,
he knew right away what kind of place he
wanted to run.
Th e place is straight out of the ’70s
in the best way possible. No food is
served (aside from delicious popcorn)
and drinks are poured with a heavy hand.
Classic rock and old-school hip-hop blare
from the speakers and beautiful motorcycles
sit beside the curb outside.
At the same time, however, it was
important to Joseph that the community
knows that NYMF isn’t just a biker bar.
“Listen, man: the bar welcomes everybody.

Nobody judges anyone here. Th e
last thing I want is for people to go, ‘Oh
there’s that biker bar that disrupts the
neighborhood.’”
Whether you ride a motorcycle or mass
transit, stop by NYMF Bar, bring your
own food or have some of their fresh popcorn,
buy a Hard Rider NYC shirt, and go
back in time for a couple of drinks.
