New Convention for
LIC Residents & Businesses
to be Held at Plaxall Gallery
P.S./I.S. 78Q PTA, organizer of the new LIC-CON, announced their Community Convention
event will be held from 10.00am – 1.00pm in Plaxall Gallery: 5-25 46th Ave Long Island City,
NY 11101 on Saturday, March 30, 2019.
Long Island City residents & businesses interested in getting the best from the local area
will find a new promotion opportunity at the pioneering LIC-CON community convention
scheduled for Saturday, March 30, 2019.
Held at the Plaxall Gallery, it is hoped that this inaugural "LIC-CON Community + Business +
Connection" event will attract significant attention and attendance from both residents
and local businesses. The event is the brainchild of the P.S./I.S. 78Q PTA - a diverse group
of parents who themselves represent both residents and local businesses. P.S./I.S. 78Q is
Long Island City's only public school serving grades Pre-K through 8th grade and is itself
an integral part of the community.
"The primary goal of LIC-CON is to connect Long Island City residents and businesses
together," said event co-organizer and Co-Vice President of the PTA, Charmaine Mendoza.
LIC-CON co-organizer, Kelly Craig added, "There are so many local businesses, we wanted
to create a new platform that promotes their excellent products and services to the
people of the local community, right here in Long Island City."
Mendoza continued, "With so much promotion and interaction occurring online via social
media these days, we wanted to take an important step and create an opportunity to
bring the community together, connecting as real people, face-to-face."
In sponsoring LIC-CON the P.S./I.S. 78Q PTA hope to benefit the businesses and the
residents. They have created a platform to enable the promotion of local businesses. Each
business will participate by booking their own space to showcase their products and
services, offer live demonstrations or give away samples in front of the entire community.
It's a unique chance to engage local residents and introduce products, services, ideas and
venues they can benefit from but may not previously have known about.
Mendoza was clear from the outset that she wanted this event to be free to the
community to maximise involvement. To enable this, local businesses are each requested
to pay $100.00 to $150.00 to participate. All proceeds will help fund arts, music and
education programs at P.S./I.S. 78Q. Bree Chambers and Genevieve Bernier, Co-Presidents
of the PTA suggest local businesses and vendors contribute through demonstrations,
sampling, promotional discounts or the distribution of informational pamphlets or fliers.
Many businesses have already secured their space for the event including Pro-Health
Dental, Tiger J Taekwondo, Hinds Combat Sports, Gantry Kids, Playday, City Owlets,
Snapology, Cosmic Fit Club, Chelsea Pediatric Dentistry, LIC Youth Soccer Academy, YMCA
LIC, Dynasty Breaking NYC Inc. and Bridgeview School of Fine Arts.
Emphasising that they want the event to be a free, interactive and engaging experience
for the residents of Long Island City, they are not allowing the sale of food or drinks. Local
food producers, restaurants and eateries are encouraged to participate through free
sampling and/or food demonstrations.
Full details on the event can be found along with the sign up form for local business or
vendor participation at the event webpage at: http://bit.ly/LIC-CON2019APP.
