The Flyers’ first silver medal winners were junior boys Ricky Hubert, Kacper Niepojok, Cristian Petrov, Sean Walsh, Victor Ostling and Daniel Marmolejos. Novice girls Aileen Mitartonda, Olaia Higgins, Caroline Gordon, Aiobhe Gallagher, Alejandra Garcia and Grace Finnegan also brought took silver for the Flyers. Receiving bronze medals were senior boys Nicholas Catapano, Owen Kelly, John Boger and Joseph Browne. Flyers Peewees Emily Pedicini, Sadie Donahue, Ciara Reilly, Savannah Conroy, Olivia Santoro, Jack Clark, Dylan Isca, Ethan Joseph, Sean Johnson, William Radu, Justin Felicano and Jack Gordon also received medals for their participation at the Diocesan races. The Flyers coaches are equally proud of all who participated, especially junior girls Paulina Lisowski, Emily Browne and Isabe lla Cedeno, as well as bantam girls Roisin Wrynn, Lin Finnegan, Melissa Muench and Amber Marmolejos. Novice boys Unai Higgins, Gavin Walsh, Frank Santoro, Stephen Honan, Finn Healing, Jacob Jazmin and Anthony Pedicini, along with bantam boys Andrew Kelly, Joshua Jazmin, Kevin Isca and Joshua Paz, each put in impressive performances. With the win, the Knights improved to 3-0, 1-0 in ECC play on the young season, while the Redhawks moved to 2-1 overall, and 0-1 in conference action. The Knights got off to a quick start as freshman Beth Bonin kickstarted the scoring with a three 16 seconds into the game. Madison Rowland struck a three of her own as QC got a quick 6-0 start with barely a minute gone in the fi rst stanza. A back and forth fi rst quarter followed before RWC’s Emily Miller connected on a free throw to take a 17-16 lead into the second quarter. The second quarter was not much diff erent as the Redhawks refused to let the Knights run away with the game. The Knights took a six-point advantage aft er Mackenzie Rowland connected both free throws of her own. But the Redhawks battled back to cut the defi cit by one (37-36) as the teams went into the half. Sophomore Kaitlyn Mahon’s layup started an 11-1 run in the third quarter as QC ran away with the game to take a 50-37 lead with 6:26 remaining in the period. The Knights outscored the Redhawks 25-15 in the third. The Redhawks cut the defi cit down to seven (62-55) behind a Miller layup, but Madison scored back-to-back buckets to extend the lead back to double digits (66-55). The Knights shot 42.5 percent (31- 73) from, while the Redhawks shot 40.0 percent (24-60) for the game. Mackenzie Rowland scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her fi rst double-double of the season, while Madison Rowland racked up a double double of her own with 24 points, 14 rebounds, and season-high eight steals. Junior Merrick Rowland scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
