On the girls side, BWG ‘06 Sky won their New York Cup game against FC Woodhaven United 5-1, by using a combination of great passing and teamwork. On Saturday, Nov. 19, the 16 and 18 USSF Academy teams traveled to SUNY Purchase, where the BWG 16s won 4-3, while the BWG 18 s tied 2-2 against FC Westchester. The younger BWG teams were in action, too. The USSF 12 Academy team faced the New York Cosmos, where the BWG boys lost on a last-minute goal, ending the game with a 4-3 score in favor of the Cosmos. On Sunday Nov. 20, in cold and windy weather, the BWG 13s and 14s Academy teams faced the NASL New York Cosmos team at Aviator Sports Complex, in Brooklyn. Both of those games fi nished in a tie as the 14s tied 1-1; while the 13s ended in a scoreless draw. In other BWG news, Jack McGlynn, a player on the BWG 14 Academy team, just completed his national camp with the USA 14s National Team, while Mateo Ritaccio was called back by the Premiere League’s Liverpool to train with their academy team for the fourth time this year. Flushing bar to host New York Arm Wrestling Association championship tournament BY ANTHONY GIUDICE [email protected] @A_GIUDICEREPORT Who has the strongest arm in New York? Come down to Cheap Shots Sports Bar in Flushing next week to fi nd out. The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) will be hosting the 39th Annual Empire State Tournament of Champions — the Offi cial 2016 New York State Arm Wrestling Championships — on Sunday, Dec. 4, to see who has what it takes to be crowned New York State’s strongest arm, and part of the $3,000+ prize pool. “The Empire State ‘Golden Arm’ Tournament of Champions is New York City’s oldest and most prestigious sought-aft er title,” said Gene Camp, founder and president of the NYAWA. “This event is the culmination of the 2016 NYAWA season and very exciting to watch because it is loaded with top talent locally, from all over the tri-state area and far beyond.” The competition is open to men, women, professional arm wrestlers, amateurs and walk-ins 18 years old and over. The event will be divided into right- and left -hand weight class categories for men and women in pro, amateur, masters 45+ and 55+ years old. Over 100 of the city’s best arm wrestlers are expected to be there, among them, the winners of the 2016 NYC Big Apple Grapple International, while last year’s 2015 Empire State Champions will also be back to defend their titles. According to NYAWA, there are no residency requirements to compete in the contest, so participants and teams are expected to come from within the fi ve boroughs, Long Island and from as far away as Russia, Brazil and Turkey and other nations. Entrance fees for the competition at Cheap Shots Sports Bar located at 149-05 Union Tpke., are $25 for amateurs, $35 for pros and $15 for women, while spectator’s admission is $5. Contestants should weigh in and register between 9:30 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. on the day of the event.
