City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley was on hand to help officially open the new store location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. In addition, Crowley also helped facilitate a connection between the retailer and the Lifeway Network, a local nonprofit organization aimed at helping victims of abuse and human trafficking. As a result, HomeGoods made a generous donation of $5,000 to the charity. Cashiers also accepted donations from customers for St. Children’s Hospital throughout the day, clapping and cheering each time a donation was made. The newly opened, 19,000-square-foot space was built in the space that formerly housed the Amish Market and Rosetta Wine and Spirits nearly a decade ago. The new store was filled with aisles of decorative accents for every room of the house, along with special sections for pet supplies and children’s toys. Holiday gifts and merchandise also took center stage, with many patrons getting a jump on their holiday shopping. The HomeGoods staff was upbeat, welcoming and eager to help visitors to the new store. The line to purchase items had a 45-minute wait time and wrapped around the back of the store itself, proof of the retailer’s appeal to local shoppers. HomeGoods’ sister store, TJ Maxx, opened at Atlas Park in 2014 in the space previously occupied by Borders bookstore. Both HomeGoods and TJ Maxx are owned by TJX Companies.
