Team Takes Medals The St. Margaret/Resurrection Flyers from Middle Village brought home several medals after recently competing in the Diocesan Championship races at Alley Pond Park in Oakland Gardens. Bringing home the Silver Medals for second place were the Junior Girls Aiofe Kenny; Zara McPartland; Ainara Higgins; Zara Nafaa; Sarah Perez; Lili Cathersal; and Nina Allen. The Bronze medal recipients for third place were Bantam Boys Seamus Girdusky; Kasper Niepokoj; Ricky Hubert; Alexander Chen; Shane Rooney; and Joshua Rivera. Other medal recipients included Novice Boys Kevin Girdusky; Sean Walsh; Luke Trinchiilo; Justin Trinchillo; Kevin Isca; Josiah Boulet; and Joshua Paz. Participating in the race were Senior Boys Brian Kelly; Senior Girls Ellen McGovern; and Ava Dieffenbacher; Junior Boys John Ostling; Owen Kelly; Jorge Aguilar; Danny Perez; Joseph Browne; Alex Rivera; and John Boger. The coaches, Jeff Boger; Mark Codd; Dennis Fey; Teresa Hubert; Mike Loftus; and George McCarthey stated they were extremely proud of all the runners and looked forward to continued team success in the upcoming indoor season. St. John’s Prep Wins Ladies Volley Title The St. John’s Prep Red Storm volleyball teams captured the Brooklyn Diocese Division II varsity and junior varsity championships for the fourth consecutive year by defeating the St. Edmund Prep Eagles in hard fought matches. After completing the regular season with a perfect 11-0 record, the varsity defeated St. Edmund’s in straight sets by a score of 25-12, 26-24 and 25-17. Coach Jennifer Cocchi after the game said how proud she was in how the team played throughout the season. The Red Storm Varsity will now advance to the City A Championship. Not to be outdone, the Red Storm junior varsity, coached by Lisa Cavanagh, also won their match by straight sets with scores 25-23 and 25-18. Coach Cavanagh complimented the team on the total team effort it took to capture the championship.
