Jane “Jean” Gebert passed on August 9th, 2018 with
her family at her side in Baldwin NY. Proud daughter
of Irish Immigrants Peter and Honor Tynan, born in
11932 on the West Side of Manhattan, would also
spend time in the Bronx, before establishing strong
roots throughout her childhood in Bay Ridge
Brooklyn.
Moving to Woodhaven Queens in 1956 with her
husband the late Henry D. Gebert they would raise 11
718-458-3000
children, seeing their tribe grow immeasurably with numerous grandchildren and
great grandchildren. Their local Parish, St. Thomas The Apostle would help educate
their children in the Catholic Faith, see their family through joyous and trying times,
including boarding them after a house fire on New Year’s Eve day in 1969.
Jane believed in helping others, volunteering as a parent, CCD teacher, working
with “PRIDE” (People for Rehabilitation through Integration for the Disabled
through Education) and donating to charitable causes.
Her children would hear stories of her Co-Workers at Howard Johnsons, The
Prince George Hotel and NY Hilton. Stories that spoke of her value in a hard
day’s work and earning your own way in life.
Jane loved the Ocean, taking family and neighborhood children to Rockaway
Beach, to the shores of Long Island and Cape Cod. Also, treasuring time spent
reading in self betterment and developing relationships around the table. She
especially enjoyed large gatherings with Family and Friends during the Holidays
and always willing to make room for one more guest.
Jane and Our family will always be grateful for friends and caretakers that would
visit over the years and spend time with her in the end.
Jane is survived by many family members, including her brother John P. Tynan
of Sarasota Florida (formerly of Middle Village, NY). Predeceased siblings
consist of Peter, James, Martin, Mary and Theresa.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered at St. Thomas Apostle in Woodhaven
followed by internment at St. Charles Cemetery. Memorial donations can be
made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
