A Maspeth school has received
national recognition for its
work with its students and its
overall performance.
Maspeth High School is one of 349
schools that were honored as a 2018
National Blue Ribbon School. The
Maspeth school will be honored in the
Exemplary High Performing Schools
category, which recognizes the school
as one of New York state’s highest performing
schools as measured by state
assessments or national tests.
“I’m pleased to celebrate with you as
your school is named a National Blue
Ribbon School,” said U.S. Secretary of
Education Betsy DeVos in a video message
to the honorees. “We recognize
and honor your important work in preparing
students for successful careers
and meaningful lives. Congratulations
on your students’ accomplishments
and for your extraordinary commitment
to meeting their unique needs.”
For 36 years, the National Blue
Ribbon Schools Program has recognized
more than 8,800 schools for the
hard work of educators, families and
communities who create a safe and
welcoming environment where students
can engage in the educational
content. Schools are chosen based on
their overall academic performance
or progress in closing achievement
gaps among student subgroups.
On Nov. 7-8, the Department of Education
will host an awards ceremony
in Washington, D.C., to celebrate this
year’s National Blue Ribbon schools.
“The mission of Maspeth High
School has always been to establish
ourselves as an institution of excellence
by providing the highest possible
quality of education to the students
of New York City,” said Khurshid

our students and their families for the
foreseeable future.”
