FLORENCE BENNETT died on
Tuesday, September 12, at the age of
80. She was the daughter of Charles
and Maude “Margaret” Bennett and
sister of Richard, Lorraine, Gordon
and Henry. Florence was loving
aunt to Matthew Bennett, Michael
Bennett, Charlotte Smith, Darlene
Fitzsimmons, Margaret Cuff e, Wayne
Otten, Valerie Popp, Douglas Otten,
John Shaffer, Gordon Shaffer, as
well as great-aunt and great-great
aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Florence grew up in Ridgewood and
later moved to Middle Village where
she became a regular fi xture of the
Middle Village Civic Association
meetings. Florence loved music, singing
in the St. John’s UMC Senior Choir
for many years; was an avid bowler,
a devoted Jets, Mets and Islanders
fan; and enjoyed gathering with
the ladies at the Trinity Lutheran
Church Ladies group. Visitation was
held at Leo F. Kearns Funeral Home,
61-40 Woodhaven Blvd., Rego Park,
followed by a private cremation.

HELGA URSULA GRELL of
Ridgewood died on Monday, September
18, at the age of 78. A native of
Czechoslovakia, she was the wife of
the late Dietrich Grell, devoted mother
of Dietrich Grell, and dear sister
of Rudy Fischer and Horst Fischer.
Services were off ered at Morton Funeral
Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663
Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, followed
by cremation at Fresh Pond Crematory,
Middle Village.

BARBARA ANN D. BAILEY died
on Saturday, September 16, at the age of
75. She was the beloved mother of John
and Eufemio Torres-Rojas and Ed and
Renda Bailey, loving grandmother of
Shawn, cherished grandmother of Addy
and dear sister of Janet Rubano. She
is also survived by many loving nieces,
nephews and friends. Mrs. Bailey was
a retired NYPD offi cer. Services were
offered on Wednesday, September
20, at Papavero Funeral Home, 72-27
Grand Ave., Maspeth, followed by
entombment at Pinelawn Memorial
Park, Farmingdale, NY.

EDWIN VARGAS of Brooklyn died
on Saturday, September 16, at the age
of 66. A native of San Sebastian, Puerto
Rico, he was the devoted father of
Edwin M. Vargas and Kenny Vargas
and dear brother of Elsa Paterno, Aida
S. Vargas, Blanca I. Gomez, Hilda Vargas,
Luz E. Vargas and Luis R. Vargas.
Services were off ered at Morton Funeral
Home/Ridgewood Chapels, 663
Grandview Ave., Ridgewood, followed
by interment at St. John Cemetery,
Middle Village.

September 15, at the age of 80. She
was the wife of the late Emilio “Tiny”
Allocco, loving mother of Dolores Siesto,
Phyllis Rivera and Donna Allocco,
mother-in-law of Joseph and Oscar,
cherished grandmother of Richie,
Danielle, Ava, Nina and Victoria and
dear sister of Michael Lassandro and
the late Joseph Lassandro. A Mass of
Christian Burial was off ered on Tuesday,
September 19, at St. Leo’s Church,
Corona, followed by entombment at
St. John Cemetery Ave Maria Garden
Mausoleum, Middle Village, under the
direction of Papavero Funeral Home,

died on Wednesday, September 13,
at the age of 56. She was the beloved
mother of Mark Dayoan and Alexa
Dayoan, cherished daughter of Josefi
na Balmeo, loving sister of Arnel
Balmeo, Wilfredo Balmeo, Warfredo
Balmeo, Sigfredo Balmeo and Arlene
Merchan and dearest friend of Luz
Muñoz. She is also survived by many
loving nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends. A Mass of Christian Burial
was off ered on Monday, September
18, at St. Mary’s Church, Woodside,
followed by cremation at Fresh Pond
Crematory, Middle Village, under the

SALVATORE DI SCALA of Maspeth
died on Wednesday, September
13, at the age of 81. A native of Ischia,
Italy, he was the beloved husband of
Lucrezia, devoted father of Angelo Di
Scala and George Di Scala and dear
brother of Concetta Arcamone, Raffaela
De Marco and Giorgio Di Scala.
He is also survived by three grandchildren.

Cemetery, Middle Village, under the
