For yet another year, Maspeth High
School (MHS) has been named to
the New York Post’s top 40 public
high schools in New York City, rising
from number 27 in 2016, to the 21st best
public school in the city this year.
The Post broke down MHS’s statistic
ranging from the number of students
enrolled, to the graduation rate and
college readiness of the students. Each
category was weighted using the latest
available state and city data.
“Our school community strives to
provide the best possible education
to our students,” said MHS principal
Khurshid Abdul Mutakabbir. “As
a result of tireless dedication and
inspiration, Maspeth High School’s
students continue to prove themselves
among their peers in New York City's
best high schools.”
MHS was ranked according to:
• Four-year graduation rate: 99.2
percent (weight: 10 percent);
• Percent of students scoring over
85 on Regents Algebra and Regents
English Language Arts exams 62.9
percent (20 percent);
• Number taking SAT exams 89 percent
(10 percent);
Students at Maspeth High School helped the school earn the 21st ranking in the NY Post's best public high
schools in NYC.
• Average total SAT scores 1488 (30
percent);*
• Percent of students scoring a
passing 3, 4, or 5 on AP exams 41.4
percent (30 percent); and
• College Enrollment 78.7 percent
*The SAT scores from 2015-16
were based on math, critical reading
and essay writing sections
with a maximum score of 2400
points. The SAT has since made the
essay optional and returned to a
1600-point scale.
“Central Queens students receive
classical liberal arts education at this
young school — established in 2011 —
rooted in ancient learning principles,”
the Post said of the high school. “Everyone
takes four years of Latin or Mandarin,
as well as classes in performing
or visual arts. A new black-box theater
enriches the drama program this year.
Top sports, including soft ball and tennis,
and high-ranked debate and mock
trial teams.”
MHS joins other Queens schools
in the top 40, including: Townsend
