Several Blau Weiss Gottschee
(BWG) teams took the pitch this
weekend to hone their soccer
skills and move up in the rankings.
Over the weekend BWG’s two 2006
teams went head-to-head with the FC
Westchester’s teams at Juniper Valley
Park in Middle Village.
In the first game, the U12 BWG
Academy team won a closely contested
game 1-0, with the game’s only goal
being scored by Jakub Pataki off of a
BWG corner kick. In the second game,
the teams played to a 2-2 draw with
goals scored by Rowan Ragazzi and
Kirby Henoa.
On the very same day, both the BWG
2005 and 2004 teams played against
the FC Westchester teams, with the
2005s tying 3-3, and the 2004s winning
by a score of 3-1.
On the girls’ side, the BWG 2007
group played Manhasset Manchester
United. The girls played a great game
and came away with a 5-1 victory.
In other BWG news, BWG Academy
and Cold Spring Harbor Huntington
Soccer Club came together to form
a player development partnership
which will see the two club build a
best-in-class approach to youth soccer
player development in Long Island and
Queens through a number of joint
programs.

Queens kids served up some action
during the U.S. Open in Flushing
as they participated in several
on-court demonstrations to help kick
off the launch of Net Generation, the
United States Tennis Association’s
(USTA) brand-new youth brand.
The children — who came from Cunningham
Tennis and Alley Pond Tennis
Center — joined youth tennis groups
from across the country in taking part
in the on-court demos, coin tosses, and
escorting professional players onto the
court during the U.S. Open.
Net Generation provides youths
aged 5 to 18 a chance to show the world
the bright future of the sport by linking
players to innovative programs
that put more emphasis on learning
through play and building character
rather than just through drills and
competition.
The USTA has also developed
the first-ever “Safe Play” program
which highlights the organization’s
commitment to respect and the safety
of everyone involved with Net Generation
through background checks,
screenings, education and reporting
tools.
