VICTIM DIES IN HOMICIDE
Detectives have launched a homicide
investigation into the death of a
Ridgewood man who was assaulted in
front of his home last week.
Hugo Moreta, 56, was punched in
the face by an unidentifi ed male along
Decatur Street between Cypress and
Wyckoff avenues at about 1:30 a.m.
on the morning of Sept. 3. Police said
Moreta’s head struck the ground as he
fell from the blow, causing him to lose
consciousness.
Offi cers from the 104th Precinct
later learned that Moreta was attacked
aft er getting into a dispute with the
suspect and a second, unidentifi ed individual.
The two other men involved
in the incident fl ed the scene before
police arrived.
Cops found Moreta unconscious and
bleeding from the mouth; paramedics
rushed him to Elmhurst Hospital,
where he died of his injuries on Thursday,
Sept. 7. Police subsequently ruled
his death a homicide.
No arrests have been made, and the
investigation is ongoing.

THREE TEENS WANTED
FOR LATE-NIGHT MUGGING
Police are looking for three teenagers
who helped a fourth individual
mug a man as he walked home on a
Ridgewood street and stole his iPhone
earlier this month.
According to authorities, four suspects
approached their 55-year-old
male victim at approximately 11:30
p.m. on Sept. 3, near the intersection of
Grove Street and Onderdonk Avenue.
They then punched him in the face
and removed his iPhone 7 and $25,
cops said. Aft er the attack, the teens allegedly
fl ed in an unknown direction.
Cops identified the four people
wanted in connection to the robbery.
Those four people are:
Dennis Spence,
18, male, white of
Hispanic, from
Ridgewood;
Koji Estevez ,
19, male, white or
Hispanic, from
Ridgewood;
Angel Copanilta,
18, male, white or
Hispanic, from Ridgewood; and Steve
Coello, male, white or Hispanic, from Maspeth,
who was arrested on Sept. 8.
The 104th Precinct released wanted
posters for all four suspects on their
Twitter page.
