Ridgewood among NYC’s top 10 best
places to raise a family: report
BY SUZANNE MONTEVERDI
SMONTEVERDI@QNS.COM / @SMONT76
Queens is living up to its reputation
as the borough of families,
according to a recent report.
Two northeastern and one western
Queens neighborhood made Street-
Easy‘s list of the top 10 neighborhoods
to raise a family citywide. The real estate
group considered several factors,
including the number of listed two or
more bedroom rentals listed on the site,
the number of families with kids under
18 already living in the neighborhood,
local school scores and aff ordability.
Coming in at No. 2 was Auburndale.
Located in the easternmost section of
Flushing, the neighborhood scored 9.8
on a scale of 10 and has a median rent
of $2,200 — the borough-wide average.
Here, over 71 percent of all rentals
off er two or more bedrooms.
Bayside came in at No. 6 on the list.
The northeastern Queens neighborhood
scored a 9 with the median rent
clocking in at $2,525. About two-thirds
of the area’s apartments have two or
more bedrooms.
Ridgewood, at No. 10, scored an 8.5.
Median rent in this neighborhood is
$2,093 — below the borough average —
and 87 percent of all rentals have two
or more bedrooms. And, of the three
Queens neighborhoods that made the list,
Ridgewood has the highest concentration
of households with young children.
According to StreetEasy, Queens is best
“for parents who prioritize more space
and kid-friendly communities above
all else.” Spacious parks, stellar schools
and great places to eat make the three appearing
neighborhoods standout options.
Thinking of making the move from
another area of the city to one of these
family-friendly Queens neighborhoods?

“Should I buy or should I rent?” tool,
