Ridgewood Y ends summer camp with a bang

The kids at the Ridgewood YMCA
recently celebrated the fi nal
day of their summer camp
program as they put on performances
for their parents, YMCA staff , and
community members.
The 2017 Ridgewood Y summer
camp program was science, technology,
engineering, arts, and math
(STEAM) themed, and the kids
were able to participate in learning
trips, arts and crafts, science experiments,
sports and games, and
much more.
To show their appreciation, on
Friday, Aug. 25 — the fi nal day of
camp — the children fi lled the YMCA
gymnasium, located at 69-02 64th
St., with their artistic creations and
thank you notes to the staff and community.
During the day, kids put on
performances of “I’m Going on a Bear
Hunt” and a Zumba routine.
Campers are already excited to
come back for the 2018 Ridgewood
YMCA summer camp.

BWG fi nishes second in
Labor Day tournament
The 2005 Blau Weiss Gottschee
(BWG) travel team played in the
FC Copa Cup over the Labor Day
weekend, playing for the fi rst time in
an 11 vs. 11 tournament.
During the tournament, BWG
was victorious against three
New Jersey teams: FC Copa Black,
FC Copa South, and Hackensack.
However, BWG lost in the finals
against Manhattan Soccer Club to
take second place.
On the USSF Academy side, every
BWG Academy team opened against
the Major League Soccer (MLS) New
York City Football Club (NYCFC).
Three BWG Academy teams managed
to pull off wins: the 14s (2-1), 15s (3-1),
and 17s (3-0). The NYCFC teams won
in the 12s, 13s, and 19s age groups.
