Glendale is gearing up for another
neighborhood-wide yard
sale next weekend aft er the fi rst
one earlier this year was a smashing
success.
In April, Kathy Masi, member of
Community Board 5 (CB 5), and Michelle
Cook-Lopez, owner of Cook’s
Craft s on Myrtle Avenue, teamed up to
bring Glendale its very fi rst community
yard sale. They are now joining forces
once again to get the entire neighborhood
involved to sell their items.
Last year there were about 35 to 40
participating homes, Masi said. This
year, many more have already signed
up to be part of the weekend.
“This time we already doubled the
number from last year,” she added.
“This whole idea was inspired by the
Woodhaven neighborhood sale. It’s not
our original idea, but it is a terrifi c idea
and really works out well for everybody.”
This year’s sale will take place on
Saturday, Sept. 16, and Sunday, Sept.
17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
People are invited to set up a table
during the rain-or-shine event and
sell anything they want to get rid
of — old or new — including adult and
children’s clothes, games, toys, jewelry,
furniture, appliances, decorations and
much more.
The Girl Scouts, who were instrumental
in hanging fl iers across
Glendale advertising the yard sale,
will also be leaving a basket outside
of 71-28 71st St. and a location on 87th
Street for food donations that will go
to the Sacred Heart Pantry.
Masi has asked that participating
homes place a balloon outside their
homes or signs along their blocks to
help direct people to their homes for
the sales.
“We are already more successful
than last year,” she said. “Now, we just
need the people to come.”
To fi nd out which homes are already
participating, maps will be handed out
during the Glendale Kiwanis Community
Day on Saturday, Sept. 9, between
the hours of 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at The
Shops at Atlas Park, located at 8000
Cooper Ave.
If anyone is interested in being a
part of the sale, they can reach out to
Masi or Cook-Lopez through the Glendale
Civic Association Facebook page.
