At fi rst, the 104th Precinct’s National
Night Out Against Crime
celebration on Aug. 7 at Middle
Village’s Juniper Valley Park had hundreds
of people enjoying a great time
with local police.
Then the clouds darkened, the
lightning struck and the rain poured
— sending hundreds of spectators
running for cover.
Middle Village wound up being one of
the neighborhoods hardest hit by Tuesday
night’s severe thunderstorm, which
sparked a power outage in part of the
neighborhood and localized fl ooding.
Before the tempest, however, attendees
at the National Night Out event had a
great time mingling with local police
offi cers and enjoying music, entertainment,
games and refreshments.
Guests also got to check out three
NYPD Aviation Unit helicopters which
landed on the Juniper Valley Park
ballfi elds.
