The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) will present the 37th Annual NYC Queensboro Arm Wrestling Championships Saturday, Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. in Flushing. Admission is $5 for spectators. Entrance fees are $25 for amateur males, $30 for Pros and $10 for women. Contestants should register and weigh-in between 9:30 a.m. and before 12:50 p.m., as the event begins at 1 p.m. sharp. Contestants must be at least 18 and there are no residency requirements. More than 100 men and women will compete in 19 Amateur and Pro weight classes for the prestigious Queens Golden Arm Wrestling titles. Queens’ male and female overall winners will be awarded the Queens Strongest Arm MVP. The boroughs Strongest man (right and left arms) will receive $100 in cash prizes and the top female will receive a Special Queens MVP award. The final matches begin at approximately 3:30 p.m..Awards and T-shirts will be presented to first, second and third place finalists, who will be invited to compete at the Finals, the 37th Annual Empire State Golden Arm Tournament of Champions to be held later this year. The NYC Queensboro Arm Wrestling Championships is the oldest of all NYAWA championships, having begun in 1977 at the old Sunnyside Gardens Arena in Sunnyside. The Queensboro Championships draws competition both locally from the five boroughs, Long Island, the tri-state area and from as far away as Turkey, Russia and other distant lands, said Gene Camp, NYAWA founder and president. “We expect some of the best arm wrestlers in the world to compete for these unique NYC Queens Arm Wrestling titles where every match has an audience favorite and underdog,” Camp said. The New York Golden Arm Series consists of up to six preliminary championships and a final. Events are held in each of the five boroughs, Long Island, and upstate New York. Upcoming events include the Brooklyn Kingsboro, Bronx Bronxboro and NYC Sit-Down Championships.
