The 5th Annual Best of the Boro Competition has officially begun! Every year, hundreds of businesses in a number of categories get nominated bestof.qns.com A QUEENS COURIER AND QNS.COM CONTEST and thousands of people vote. The Best of the Boro title has become a highly coveted award for the most outstanding businesses. This is your chance to tell us which businesses really are the best in Queens. From now until Aug. 5, nominations are open for the Best of the Boro Competition. Categories include Food, Restaurants, Arts/ Entertainment, Shopping, Pets, Automotive, Sports, Weddings, Health & Wellness, Home & Garden, Fashion, and Nightlife & Spirits. The top 10 businesses that receive the most nominations will move on to the voting round, which takes place from Aug. 22 to Oct. 21. Maspeth Lions give local students awards for community service Recently, the Maspeth Lions Club presented their Annual Student Awards for excellence in community service to local students at Our Lady of Hope, St. Stanislaus and St. Adalbert’s schools. Students received monetary award scholarships for exhibiting great community values and participation in community service activities in the local community. Awards were presented to the students by Lion President Michael Aylward and Lion Treasurer Joseph B. Papavero at each of the graduation ceremonies at the respective schools. The student award recipients were as follows: from Our Lady of Hope School – Guido Modano, attending St. Francis Preparatory High School, and Renée Crowe, attending Archbishop Molloy High School; from St. Stanislaus School – Ewa Podkowa, attending Aviation High School, and Emma Witanowski, attending Mary Louis Academy; and from St. Adalbert’s School – Jesse Morales, attending Maspeth High School, Malachy Fitzgerald, attending Maspeth High School, Sebastian Mendez, attending St. Francis Preparatory High School, and Patrick O’Neill, attending Monsignor McClancy High School.
