TIMES, THURSDAY, MAY 1, 2014 • 32 A Green Banner Day For Maspeth High For its efforts to conserve natural resources and promote environmental protection, Maspeth High School earned the “Green Flag” from the National Wildlife Federation during a ceremony on campus last Friday, Apr. 25. Maspeth High is the fifth New York City school to earn the Green Flag, awarded through the federation’s Eco-Schools USA program, for conducting programs to reduce energy costs and waste, promote green school grounds and encourage students to engage in hands-on scientific learning. The high school’s Green Club, led by biology teacher Aaron Bell, earned the school its Green Flag for a number of programs including facility-wide audits for waste and recycling, desgining educational recycling games at the school’s Halloween carnival and creating an outdoor garden on campus. Among those who participated in the flag presentation were State Sen. Joseph Addabbo, City Council Member Elizabeth Crowley, Bell and Maspeth High School students.
