The New York Mets will host their 2016 Anthem Search starting on Tuesday, March 22, at Citi Field. Singers of all ages are encouraged to audition at the Press Conference Room on the first base side of Citi Field between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Singers 18 and under must be accompanied Glendale’s Sacred Heart storms St. John’s BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport The girls from Sacred Heart School in Glendale got the chance to play a scrimmage game for women’s day in sports on St. John’s University’s court on Sunday, Feb. 28. Coach Joseph McGinty and Coach Regina Crowley brought approximately 30 girls from the Sacred Heart CYO youth program in grades four through seven to participate in a twohour sports clinic. The clinic included basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, cheerleading and dance. The girls were instructed by the women athletes who are part of these specific teams at St. John’s University. The girls were then invited to watch the Red Storm women’s basketball game scheduled for that day. During halftime, the Sacred Heart girls were offered an opportunity to play a scrimmage game on the Lou Carnesecca Court. “It was a great day,” McGinty said. “An experience that our girls will never forget.” The girls also got to meet Kym Hampton from the New York Liberty. by a parent or legal guardian. Get there early, as the first 100 contestants to arrive are guaranteed an a cappella audition of any song of their choice except for “The Star-Spangled Banner.” There will be three celebrity judges to evaluate the contestants: Skeery Jones, Z100’s Elvis Duran and Morning Show radio personality; John Muller, award-winning journalist and anchor of PIX11 News at 5 and 10; and Judy Kuhn, Tony Award-nominated singer and actress in “Fun Home.” This initial audition will serve as the selection of finalists to advance to the final round. The winner of the final audition will perform the National Anthem during the Mets’ Aug. 2 showdown against the crosstown rival Yankees.
